The kids were inspired by the enterprising endeavour of Florence Nightingale who not only pioneered nursing but also saved many lives and contributed to the county's well being. They saw how she took care of their physical pains by using clean bandages and also their emotional needs by helping in writing letters. It was a wonderful session indeed. Filled with inspiration and awe. We saw many relevant examples and issues being discussed that made them think and gain valuable information. I also enjoyed the session as it is always nice to highlight female role models who did hard work and contributed towards society positively.
Report:
Today we discussed the great contributions of Florence Nightingale. I asked the kids whether they knew about it and some did hence we using the British council link we read about her inspiring biography and her pioneering work in the field of nursing. We saw how she even though coming from an affluent family chose to serve the sick, we realized it was not easy. We understood the socio-historical context as with women in the 19th century and the poor conditions of hospitals in war times. We also saw the Crimean war and understood its components historically. We also saw the video of it and how the Queen had appreciated her works through reading a letter and the medal of merit. We also discussed the queens of England being Elizabeth the 1 and then Victoria and lastly the current queen Elizabeth the 2nd. The kids were fascinated by the tradition of kingdomhood still continuing in England we also saw the Indian context of Victoria's rule. The session was filled with curiosity and images.
