Impact on the kids: 1. In the lesson, Rhyming taught children a little bit about how language works,It helped them notice and work with the sounds within words. It also helped children experience the rhythm of language. As they recited the nursery rhymes they learnt to speak with animated voices. Someday they’ll read with expression, too. 2.. When children are familiar with a nursery rhyme or rhyming book, they learn to anticipate the rhyming word. This prepares them to make predictions when they read, another important reading skill. 3. Rhyming is important for writing, too. It can help children understand that words that share common sounds often share common letters. When listening to rhyming songs and poems children create a mental picture, when can also help expand their imagination. 4. Because rhyming is fun, conducting a rhyming session can add joy to the sometimes daunting task of learning to read. Impact on me: 1) As the children are small, conducting a rhyming session called for a greater amount motivation and self-discipline than an art based class that we usually conduct.
Report:
This session was held by Pragnya Patil and Sourav Verma. Sourav and I divided the class into two sections: First, we recited nursery rhymes: Hickory Dickory Dock and wheels on the bus. After we recited them, we repeated them again for the kids to notice patterns in the rhyme scheme. After which we asked the kids to recite the rhymes, we made a "beep beep" noise when they got the rhyme wrong and a "yayyy!" noise when they got the rhyme correct. We then moved on a small youtube video with a rhymes compilation that we paused and asked the children to take a guess at the possible rhyming word. The class ended with a small worksheet we did together of 6 pictures, 3 rhyming with another 3, in which the kids had to match the correct rhymes.
